Mini grammaire : le pronom ON

Writer's picture: frenchwithannefrenchwithanne

On is used to say “some people”, “people” or “everyone”. It can also be translated as "one" or "we".

On is always used for people. NEVER for things.

When using "ON" the verb will be conjugated the same way as for "il" or "elle".

Example :

  • En France, on aime manger du pain. (in France everyone loves to eat bread)

  • On y va ? (Are we leaving ?)

  • On apportera un gâteau. (we'll bring a cake)

exercise :

Translate the following sentences :

  1. Comment fait-on des sandwichs ?

  2. On doit se lever à 7 heures le matin.

  3. On a faim !

  4. On veut manger !

  5. En France, on mange beaucoup de croissants !
